Resulting from the practical needs for linguistic communication with the native Lithuanian population, the preserved grammars and dictionaries are an important source for linguistic research today. Halle's German-Lithuanian Dictionary from 1728 is a fundamental representative of Prussian-Lithuanian lexicography.
